Supporting parents and children through understanding, regulation, and connection
Raising a child with ADHD can be deeply rewarding—and also deeply challenging.
Many parents find themselves navigating daily struggles around focus, emotional regulation, routines, school expectations, and family dynamics. What often begins as small frustrations can gradually grow into patterns of stress, conflict, or misunderstanding within the family.
Parent coaching offers a supportive space where families can move away from blame and toward understanding, connection, and practical strategies that work for the whole family.
This work is not about fixing your child.
It is about helping parents understand the ADHD brain, support nervous system regulation for all family members, and create environments where children and families can thrive.
Understanding ADHD Through a Neurodiversity Lens
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental difference that affects attention, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and sensory processing.
Children with ADHD often bring remarkable qualities to the world, including:

• creativity and imagination
• curiosity and enthusiasm
• quick thinking and problem solving
• strong emotional depth
• the ability to focus intensely on meaningful interests
At the same time, they may experience challenges with skills such as:
• organization and planning
• impulse control
• emotional regulation
• transitions and routines
• sustained attention
These differences are related to executive functioning, the cognitive processes that help us manage tasks, regulate emotions, and pursue goals. When children struggle with these skills, it can sometimes look like defiance, laziness, or lack of effort. In reality, the child’s brain may simply need different supports and environments in order to succeed.
Parent coaching helps families understand these differences and respond in ways that support both the child and the family system.
Why Parenting ADHD Can Feel So Hard
Many parents of ADHD children experience:
• constant reminders from school about behavior or focus
• daily struggles with routines, homework, or transitions
• emotional outbursts or meltdowns
• power struggles and conflict at home
• feelings of frustration, guilt, or exhaustion
Over time, these patterns can affect the emotional climate of the entire family. Children may begin to feel misunderstood or criticized. Parents may feel overwhelmed or unsure what strategies will actually help.
Parent coaching helps shift these patterns by focusing on connection, regulation, and practical support strategies.
A Polyvagal-Informed Approach to Family Support
My work with families is informed by polyvagal theory, developed by neuroscientist Dr. Stephen Porges. Polyvagal theory explains how the nervous system constantly scans for cues of safety or danger in the environment. Children with ADHD often have highly sensitive nervous systems. When they feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, or pressured, their nervous system may shift into states of:
Fight or Fligh
- emotional outbursts
- impulsive behavior
- difficulty listening or following instructions
or Shutdown
- withdrawal
- avoidance
- low motivation
- difficulty starting tasks
In these states, the brain prioritizes safety rather than learning or self-regulation.
Parent coaching helps families learn how to create conditions of safety and connection, which support the child’s ability to regulate emotions and engage more successfully in daily life.
Listening Therapy and Nervous System Support
For some families, I may incorporate listening therapy through Unyte programs, including:
Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)
Integrated Listening System (ILS)
These programs use specially filtered music designed to support nervous system regulation through the auditory system and vagus nerve pathways.

Listening therapy can support:
• emotional regulation
• sensory processing
• attention and focus
• social engagement
• stress resilience
For children with ADHD, improved nervous system regulation can make it easier to:
• manage emotions
• focus in school
• engage with family members
• respond to guidance and structure
Listening therapy may be used alongside parent coaching to support both the child’s nervous system and the overall family dynamic.
Parent Coaching: Supporting the Whole Family
Parent coaching focuses on helping parents develop tools and understanding that support both the child and the family environment.
Our work together may include:
Understanding Your Child’s ADHD
Learning how ADHD affects attention, behavior, emotions, and executive functioning.
Supporting Nervous System Regulation
Recognizing when a child is overwhelmed and learning ways to help them return to a regulated state.
Reducing Conflict at Home
Developing communication and parenting approaches that reduce power struggles.
Creating Supportive Routines
Designing family routines that support consistency while remaining flexible.
Strengthening Emotional Connection
Helping children feel understood, safe, and supported within the family.
Supporting Executive Function Development
Teaching strategies that gradually build skills such as organization, planning, and follow-through.
Supporting Parents
Helping parents feel more confident, calm, and supported in their role.
Parent coaching is a collaborative process, where we work together to find strategies that fit your child, your family, and your values.
A Compassionate Perspective for ADHD Families
Parenting a child with ADHD requires patience, flexibility, and understanding. When families begin to see ADHD through a neurodiversity-affirming and nervous-system-informed lens, something important begins to shift. Instead of asking: “Why is my child behaving this way?”
Families begin asking: “What does my child’s nervous system need right now?”
This shift often opens the door to greater connection, calmer interactions, and more effective support strategies.
Supporting Families to Thrive

When parents gain a deeper understanding of ADHD and nervous system regulation, families often experience meaningful changes:
• reduced daily conflict
• stronger parent-child relationships
• improved emotional regulation
• more supportive routines at home
• greater confidence for both parents and children
Parent coaching creates space for families to move from survival toward connection, resilience, and growth together.
